April Gruber (she/her) is an arts administrator, advocate, dancer, and teaching artist. She initially joined Dance/USA as the Director of Programs a decade ago, but has served the organization as Director of Development since 2014. Prior, her career was centered on building public understanding and support for diverse dance programming and education. This included roles as the Individual Giving Manager at Dance Place, a graduate assistantship presenting a free performance series at Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, and program management of the Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Gruber also spent more than four years as the Education Director for Dance Alloy Theater where she oversaw the Dance Alloy Theater School, community outreach and residency programs, and the annual summer intensive workshop.
April Gruber received her MFA in Dance Performance from the University of Maryland and is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of James Madison University where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Dance and was named Outstanding Dance Graduate. She has served as a Board member for Dance Exchange, the Scottsdale Community College Department of Dance, and Montessori International Children’s House, as well as a grant panelist for the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
