Heather Britt, a Cincinnati native, grew up in the arts and attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) in Over-the-Rhine. She first caught the choreographing bug during her time at SCPA and has been creating ever since. After a decade of living in California and Colorado, the renowned choreographer moved back to her hometown where she became the founder of Heather Britt Dance Collective. Britt staged her first production with Cincinnati Ballet in the 2009 Kaplan New Works Series, with the world premiere of “All Too Wonderful”. She has since gone on to choreograph numerous world premieres for The Kaplan New Works Series and Director’s Choice.
Britt is well-known throughout Greater Cincinnati as the “area’s most sought after choreographer” (Cincy Magazine). Her choreography has been performed at several companies and theaters around Cincinnati, including Playhouse in the Park. Recently, Britt’s choreography was featured in the hit musical All Shook Up and Dance ’17 at Northern Kentucky University’s School of the Arts. It’s safe to say Britt has not only established herself as an esteemed choreographer, she’s also shaking up the dance community in Cincinnati, and beyond. Her DANCEFIX creation, complete with its loyal band of followers, has grown tremendously over the past few years and has even made its way to Nashville!
Britt will be teaming up with Cincinnati Ballet, once again, in The Kaplan New Works Series, September 14-24, 2017. She’s creating a World Premiere, sure to captivate Cincinnati Ballet audiences. Echoing Soapbox Cincinnati, “Heather Britt is not a movement. She is movement.”
