International cultural exchange is a valuable tool for addressing U.S. diplomatic goals, achieving the U.S. State Department's strategic priorities, and strengthening our nation's ties to our international counterparts. The State Department currently support cultural exchange for the performing arts through programs such as DanceMotion USA, American Music Abroad, and through the Arts Envoy programs.
What's At Stake
Funding for cultural exchange has never recovered since the elimination of the United States Information Agency (USIA) and USIA's Arts America Program. The State Department's cultural exchange program funds remain low. Dance/USA, along with our arts partners and foreign affairs community continues to seek increased funding for the State Department's Cultural Programs Division.
