*Note from the artist: New Orleans is called Bulbancha which is Choctaw for “the land of many tongues.” The Atakapa, Biloxi, Caddo, Chitimacha, Houma, Natchez, and Tunica are some of the people who have stood as guardians for thousands of years. They were the ones who gave sanctuary to my people when they ran for freedom. They were protected, cared for, and in many instances became family. We acknowledge the kindred spirit of the native people of Louisiana. And we give gratitude for their being first and being generous and gracious.; HW: artist confirmed “(Choctaw, Atakapa, Biloxi, Caddo, Chitimacha, Houma, Natchez, and Tunica; New Orleans, LA)”
