Dance/USA’s 2024 Impact Report reflects upon the myriad ways in which Dance/USA served our member community and the greater dance ecosystem in alignment with our core values of Connectivity, Creativity, Equity, and Integrity.

You will read about how Dance/USA supported dance professionals in building their skills and networks through in-person and virtual programs such as Dance Forum, Dance Business Bootcamp, and Centering the Artist webinars. You will discover how we advocated for the dance ecosystem in a critical election year through the #DANCE2VOTE initiative. And, you will learn about the launch of Dance/USA’s Strategic Reframing Process — the next phase in Dance/USA’s equity, inclusion, justice, and liberation journey.

A Letter from Kellee

Dear Friend, 

2024 has been a time of critical change and continued evolution for Dance/USA. Since the start of my tenure, this quote increasingly resonates with me: 

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming…”

Creativity

Whether it was giving creative workers a platform to share their unique experiences... or inspiring the dance ecosystem to advocate for the arts during a critical election cycle, Dance/USA amplified the power of movement-based practices to create change.

Connectivity

At its core, Dance/USA is a relationship builder and network deviser, investing in the expertise, experiences, and wisdom of all the creative workers that call the dance ecosystem their home.

Equity

Through the lens of equity, Dance/USA strives to remove the boundaries erected by a legacy of racism, classism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, gender bias, and xenophobia...

Integrity

Integrity is critical to our organizational culture and the way we lead, serve, and collaborate with the dance field. We seek to provide transparency about our internal processes, professional resources, and information about the field.

The Strategic Reframing Process included:

Member Needs and Benefits Survey

  • Distributed to 1,455 individuals within Dance/USA’s member community, the Member Needs and Benefits Survey asked members to evaluate the work Dance/USA has been doing and encouraged them to ideate on ways in which the organization may better support them in their work.
  • Overwhelmingly, 71% of respondents believe that having a national association for dance is vital to the sustainability of the dance ecosystem in the U.S. and for the ability of creative workers within the ecosystem to thrive.

Dance Ecosystem Survey

  • A national survey was conducted to understand the current needs and challenges of individuals and organizations across the U.S. dance ecosystem. The survey was shared far and wide, inviting any non-Dance/USA member who has been active in the dance ecosystem for at least one year to share their input. 

Strategic Reframing Impact Group (SRIG)

  • A group of 8 individuals were invited to join the Strategic Reframing Impact Group charged with providing greater context and clarity about the needs of the dance ecosystem and the role of Dance/USA. Each SRIG member was invited to arrange their own Exchange Circle based on their unique network.
