LaTasha Barnes

Multi-Bessie award winner LaTasha Barnes, is an internationally recognized and celebrated artist, insightful educator, researcher and Tradition-Bearer of Black American Social Dance forms such as House Dance, Hip-Hop, Waacking, Authentic Jazz, Lindy Hop. An esteemed Associate Professor of Dance at Arizona State University, she is reshaping critical dance pedagogy and creative/performance processes with her “Continuum” framework, entrainment methodology and embodied archive efforts. LaTasha is the Visionary and Artistic Director of the multi-award winning, transformative community building effort and accompanying stage production “The Jazz Continuum”, and is also a Braintrust member of the acclaimed production SW!NGOUT. In concert with these notable works LaTasha serves on the boards and contributes artistically to multiple national and international organizations like Ladies of Hip-Hop, Black Lindy Hoppers Fund and Summer Dance Forever. She strives to model the importance of authenticity, cultural acknowledgement and collective responsibility to the actualization of self and others through her artistry, research and infectiously joyful presence.
