Please join us for Trustees Day 2011, a special day programmed just for Trustees of non-profit dance organizations.
Trustees Day will focus on preparing Trustees to build a dynamic, 5-star Board for their organization and will cover the role of Trustees in strategic planning, community engagement, fundraising, and many other areas. The sessions will be practical with discussions and materials customized to address the specific needs of the Trustees Day participants.
Trustees Day will be organized and facilitated by our colleagues at Arts Consulting Group (www.artsconsulting.com), one of Dance/USA’s Business Members. ACG President Bruce Thibodeau is a specialist in working with arts organization Boards on strategy, governance, leadership transitions, facility planning, and organizational development among other areas. He will lead Trustees Day, and the sessions will include discussions that are customized based on the specific needs of the Trustees who are participating.
Shortly after registering, Trustees will be asked to complete a short online survey that will be used to design the Trustees Day offerings.
Trustees Day registration: $200
Hotel rooms may be reserved at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place starting at $159 per night by going to Dance/USA's hotel booking site.
We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
Here's what participants from Trustees Day 2010 had to say about their experience:
“As the trustee of a dance company, I found last year’s Trustee Day at the Dance USA conference in Washington DC to be extremely helpful and enlightening. I believe an informed trustee is an important asset to a dance company. I feel I’ve added more value to DanceWorks Chicago since my trustee’s day experience. I met a number of trustees from around the country and it is imperative to have those kinds of connections in the fast-paced world in which we live.”
- Pam Crutchfield, Trustee, DanceWorks Chicago
“Trustee’s Day 2010 was one of the highpoints of the conference for me. The speakers and discussions targeted so thoroughly on the issues that face board members of dance companies. It was invaluable to be in a room with so many knowledgeable people who understood and shared my concerns.
I met people from across the country who served on boards of dance companies of all sizes, shapes, and disciplines. They freely shared their experience and knowledge, and generously offered on-going support. In particular, I gained information about legal responsibilities that I was able to utilize as soon as I returned home. In addition, there was a presentation on the state of the dance sector, and a panel discussion about board development featuring experts in the field. This was so helpful in providing a national perspective from which to view my own organization.
The agenda for the day was well planned out. In addition to formal presentations, there was time for one-on-one and small group discussions. I came away from the day with a lot of knowledge, but most of all with a sense of assurance that I wasn’t alone, nor was I stumbling in the dark! I highly recommend this day for any dance board member, or anyone considering board membership."
