"Dance/USA on Tour" Seminar Programs Bring Professional Development and Arts Experts to Five Regions

Washington, DC - Dance/USA continues its newest program "Dance/USA on Tour: A Series of Regional Professional Development Seminars."

From late January to mid-April 2003, Dance/USA will bring experts in arts administration, community development and fund-raising to five major centers for dance in North America.

The programs, intensive half- or full-day workshops, will address topical concerns and challenges specific to each of these dance communities. In several cities, panels of local dance artists and administrators will share accounts of successful marketing, touring or fundraising.

Workshop titles and seminar leaders include:

  • "Establishing Relationships with Donors for Ongoing Success," with Mary Ann de Barbieri (Seattle, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Boston)
  • "Your 'Whole Arts' Organization: Strategizing beyond One Season," with Kathie deNobriga (New Orleans)
  • "Collaboration: New Adventures in Community Fundraising," with Suella McMillan (New Orleans)
  • "The Realities of Touring," with David White and Craig Peterson of DTW (Seattle, San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Boston)
  • "Surviving Hard Times: Financial Management at Work" (San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul)
  • "Building Audiences, Naturally" (Seattle, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New Orleans, Boston)
To be certain that all dance practitioners can afford the workshops, a nominal registration fee will be charged and Dance/USA members will receive a discount.

Co-hosts will assist with advertising the seminars, and include Boston Dance Alliance, Seattle's Artist Trust and New Orleans Ballet Association. Support for "Dance on Tour: A Series of Regional Professional Development Seminars" comes from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
