Dance/USA on Tour goes to New Orleans!
Thursday, January 30, 2003
9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Now in its second year, the Dance/USA on Tour regional professional development seminars will kick off the programming in New Orleans, LA.

Join us for a daylong professional development seminar specifically designed for independent choreographers and small- to mid-size organizations. Kathie deNobriga, an extraordinary strategic planning consultant from Atlanta and a founding member of Alternate ROOTS, will be the seminar leader.

A founding member of Alternate ROOTS, a service organization for community-based artists in the South, Kathie deNobriga served as ROOTS' executive director and planning/development director for 10 years. During that time, she co-edited an anthology of new plays from the Southern theatre and initiated a consortium to create the Community Arts Training Directory, now available through www.communityarts.net. She is now an independent consultant for numerous grass-roots arts organizations, state arts agencies in South Carolina and Georgia, and foundations interested in building organizational capacity. She also serves as a site evaluator for national arts funders. DeNobriga is a Fellow in the Rockefeller Foundation's Next Generation Leadership program.
Participants will explore how to build their capacity beyond a single production by strategically planning for the future. Topics covered during the day will include ...

  • leadership development, whether on the board, among volunteers, or within yourself, to prioritize and get specific tasks accomplished;
  • marketing tips that have proven successful in building audiences at the local and regional level;
  • fundraising aimed at individuals and community businesses, to secure the ongoing base of support needed by every arts group.
During the morning, a session led by Suella McMillan (FL) will focus on development issues for communities that lack access to traditional resources. In the afternoon, Kathie will be joined by a panel of diverse artists and presenters who will offer insights on audience-building through marketing techniques from which everyone can learn.

There will also be time for socializing with your colleagues over a catered lunch.
Please join us for a great day of learning that will benefit your group in moving forward from a solid foundation.
