Things to do in Chicago
Chicago, Windy City or 2nd City, is the Midwest's largest with a population nearing three million, sits on the SW shore of Lake Michigan. There are diverse cultural neighborhoods, fabulous eateries, great architecture and wonderful cultural activities - and temperatures in June ranging from 81-61F. This is the time to plan a short getaway to take advantage of all the city has to offer!
For our 25th Anniversary kick-off, we'll be at the state-of-the-art Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park, the first multi-use performing arts venue built in Chicago since the 30's. Facility tours will be led throughout the evening as will delicious food representing many of the city's ethnicities. Dance/USA's 25th Anniversary will be acknowledged beginning with a nod to our beginnings by recognizing special guests and a look to our future including a Mayoral proclamation of "Dance/USA Day."
It's high dancing season while we are in Chicago! On Wednesday, June 13, you can attend a special free preview of the Chicago Dancing Festival (a free annual festival that will debut in August), with planned performances by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Jose Limón Dance Company, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and The Joffrey Ballet. On Friday, June 15, following the Council activities of the day, please join us for a lovely reception at The Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago and a curated showcase representing the diversity of Chicago dance artists. But that's not all - check back for more information on other cultural activities that are happening over the weekend throughout the city so you can feast away!

We’ll also discuss best practices using the web, specifically blogging for coverage, and will explore ways to work personally with our audiences to help increase committed attendees. Success Stories! Two Case Studies: Alvin Ailey/TRG and The Chicago Dancemakers Forum
Saturday, June 16, 3:45 – 5:15pm
Two successful marketing/PR case studies will be presented in a moderated discussion.
Target Resource Group (TRG) helped Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT) implement "demand management", which helps generate sustainable incremental sales revenue and ensures a more consistent perception of success. Ailey's veteran Executive Director, Sharon Luckman, will discuss the implementation of demand management and how it transformed Ailey's business model. TRG's Vice President of Consulting Services, Joanne Steller, will join Ms. Luckman for this session.
The Chicago Dancemakers Forum (CDF) was conceived as a catalyst for innovation and as a means to increase dynamic interaction among Chicago's dancemakers. CDF was launched in 2003 with seed funding by the Chicago Community Trust in response to the ongoing need to fund the research and development of new directions in dance. The program is designed to cultivate artistic exploration and growth by funding dance artists in their creative process as well as hosting workshops, work-in-progress feedback sessions, and critical forums and discussions for the broader Chicago dance community. CJ Mitchell, a consortium member of the Forum, and artists Julia Rhoads and Margi Cole will present an overview of this successful program.
