Growing the Field AND "Going Green!"
Being a ‘good steward’ for the planet isn’t too dissimilar from ‘nurturing’ your organization. You can do both at the Dance/USA 2009 Annual Conference, which is all about feeding your soul, fertilizing your skill set, tending to your economic 'garden', and nurturing your relationship with 'the field.'
Recently added to the Saturday, June 6 Breakout-session (E) Sustaining Your Presence: Marketing and PR Tactics for Today’s Economy, is San Diego Union-Tribune General Manager, Chris Lavin (see bio)! Paired with Steven Libman (The Libman Group and, former General Manager of the LaJolla Playhouse), this interactive session will unveil best practices and new marketing and public relations tactics to reach out to the public and the media in today’s economy. Lavin is also set to facilitate a green marketing discussion focusing on replacing print media and communicating electronically. [Click here for details.]
Dance/USA is proactively creating new partnerships to stock up your ‘tool shed’ with new resources! This includes the recently-announced opportunity for you to benefit from free financial advice from skilled advisors from the Nonprofit Finance Fund (made possible through a generous one-year grant to NFF from MetLife Foundation). The project kicks-off at the Conference with a Cross-Council Session on Friday, June 5 (“Capitalization in a Recessionary Economy”), led by NFF for managers of dance companies with budgets above $3 million during the Cross-Council session. [Click here for details.]
But we’re also committed to tending our planet at the Conference, and we’ve committed to “Going Green.” Our “green registration” commits to publishing most pre-conference materials electronically, and facilitates paperless online registration! By extending this green effort into your personal conference experience, your presence in Houston can have a tremendous environmental impact. For example, by following our simple recommendation to participate in the hotel’s towel and linen reuse program, the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) suggests that our Conference “can conserve 200 barrels of oil - enough to run a family car 180,000 miles.”
We’ve done our part by assembling the top thinkers and innovators in the art of managing, programming, marketing, funding and ‘growing’ your organization. But to get all the mileage you can from the Conference, you need to do your part: you’ve got to engage, you’ve got to connect, and you’ve got to be there!
