Matthew Keefe, Vice Chair

Matthew Keefe is a New York based independent artist and consultant to arts organizations.  He currently serves as the Operations Manager and Resident Choreographer to American Repertory Ballet, where he has previously held the positions of Company Manager, Ballet Master, and Production/Stage Manager.  In addition, Keefe keeps an active schedule of guest artist engagements and independent projects, including authoring an upcoming book for the aspiring dancer.  As a dancer, Keefe danced with the companies of the Lynda Martha Dance Company, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Fort Wayne Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theater, Louisville Ballet, Ohio Ballet, Ballet Met Columbus, and James Sewell Ballet in addition to guest appearances and independent projects.  A choreographer of more than 40 ballets, his work has been produced by professional companies, studios, summer programs, and universities. Founder of the Studio 2A Project in Minneapolis, this annual choreographic showcase of dances-in-the-round premiered dozens of new ballets in its three year existence, paid the performers, and never ran a deficit.  He has taught for the University of Iowa, where he received his MFA, and Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University as well as faculty positions at the School of Louisville Ballet, Ballet Quad Cities, Minnetonka Dance Theater, Mid Atlantic Ballet, and Princeton Ballet School.  Keefe served as an Interim Artistic Director to Ballet Quad Cities in 06-07 and Interim Studio Director to the Lackawanna Performing Arts Center in 09-10.  Keefe joined the board of Dance/USA in 1996 and currently serves as an Officer and Chair of the Trustee Committee.
