In 2009, he received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama and is the founder of the Mayor’s Institute on City Design. The Nancy Hanks Lecture is free and seating is limited. Arts Advocacy Day Comp Registrations—Spaces Still Left

Dance/USA encourages you to let your voice be heard! Because we feel so strongly about arts advocacy, we are offering 10 members a comp registration to Arts Advocacy Day 2010, a value of $85 per person. Arts Advocacy Day will take place on April 12 and 13 in Washington, DC and includes legislative training sessions, a Congressional Arts Breakfast on the Hill, and lobbying visits. If you are interested in the comp registration offer, please contact our Membership Manager, Kellee Edusei, at membership@danceusa.org. Comp registrations will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are still spaces left!

Artist Corps
One of the many issues arts advocates will be calling attention to at Arts Advocacy Day 2010 is the creation of an Artist Corps. Proposed by President Obama during his campaign, an Artist Corps would support programs administered by, or partnered with, nonprofit community organizations that place skilled artists in the community to address unmet community needs through education, performances and arts-related activities. Register to attend Arts Advocacy Day to support this advocacy issue. To learn about other national service programs that nonprofits are eligible for, visit http://www.nationalservice.gov.

Nonprofits Make the List of Top Problems for the IRS—But Barely!
Each year, the national taxpayer advocate submits an annual report to Congress listing the most serious problems encountered by taxpayers. This year's report, released December 31, 2009, and available on the IRS Web site, identifies, analyzes, and offers recommendations for resolving 21 problems, and only one — listed as #20 out of the total of 21 — is related to tax-exempt entities.
