A few stipends for registration fees are still available for Dance/USA members to attend the 2010 Annual Conference in Washington, DC, June 16-19.
To request a Conference stipend, please follow this
link and complete a brief submission form. Stipends are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis or until 12noon EDT on Thursday, March 18.
Confirmation of stipend support will be made as soon as possible and within enough time to register before the March 22 early bird deadline, should you not receive a stipend.
These Conference stipends are supported through Dance/USA's operating grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Dance/USA is currently accepting applications for our
2010 Access Dance/USA scholarship program for the New York City dance community.
Nine full and up to five partial scholarships will be awarded to support attendance at the 2010 Annual Conference in Washington, DC for dance administrators and artists from the New York City dance community. Applications are due April 9, 2010.

As part of Dance/USA’s effort to track the effect of the recession on dance-based organizations in the United States, a third round of the Rough Waters Survey was released in January 2010. Thirty nine respondents completed the survey, and a report for the Dance/USA membership is available online.

The Dance/USA research staff thanks those participants who took the time to complete this survey. In appreciation for their time and responses, those who completed the survey have been sent more detailed findings.
A fourth round of the Rough Waters Survey will be conducted in May, and we hope to hear from you!

Arts Advocacy Day 2010, a value of $85 per person. Arts Advocacy Day will take place on April 12 and 13 in Washington, DC and includes legislative training sessions, a Congressional Arts Breakfast on the Hill, and lobbying visits. Nancy Hanks Lecture at the Kennedy Center, April 12
As part of the Arts Advocacy Day activities, the Honorable Joseph P. Riley, Jr. will be giving the Nancy Hanks Lecture at The Kennedy Center on Monday, April 12. Riley is the mayor of Charleston, South Carolina and is considered a leader in the field of urban design. In 2009, he received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama and is the founder of the Mayor’s Institute on City Design. The Nancy Hanks Lecture is free and seating is limited. Dance/USA Signs onto Unified Arts Education Statement
Dance/USA, as a member of the Arts in Education Working Group, has signed onto a national statement in support of arts education. This statement will be shared with every Congressional office and key government agencies and underscores the need for arts education for creating student success in school, work and life. We encourage you to share this statement with your colleagues, audiences, teachers, public school educators and local policymakers.

Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA), New Chair of Committee that Oversees NEA Funding
On March 9, Congressman Jim Moran (VA-8) was officially named Chairman of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, which includes the National Endowment for the Arts under its purview. NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman said, "Congressman Moran has a history of strong support for the arts, and we look forward to the same constructive and productive partnership with him that we enjoyed with his predecessor, Congressman Norm Dicks."

Investing in Innovation (i3), ARRA Grant Program, Department of Education
The Investing in Innovation grant program is a $650 million education stimulus initiative to promote the "development of path-breaking new ideas, the validation of approaches that have demonstrated promise, and the scale-up of the nation's most successful and proven education innovations."
