An introduction to Argentine tango social dance for the curious and cautious! Get a taste of the intimate, improvised connection that has made tango both famous and infamous around the globe. No partner required. No roses required. Come ready to embrace and be embraced!

Sharna Fabiano has a background of classical and contemporary dance and began her study of the Argentine Tango in 1997. Over the past 13 years, she has had the excellent fortune to have studied traditional social dance in Buenos Aires with some of the greatest names in the modern Tango Renaissance. Her own teaching is characterized by a clear, articulate knowledge of body movement, and by a great depth of understanding of the improvised tango relationship.
Sharna has been invited to teach and perform tango throughout North America and Europe, and in Havana, Cuba as part of U.S.-licensed cultural exchange. In Washington, DC, she is Founder and Executive Director of Tango Mercurio, a nonprofit organization presenting tango as an agent of community development. Her performing ensemble, Sharna Fabiano Tango Company, explores the evocative territory between tango and contemporary dance and will premiere a new work, "Abrazo," at Dance Place on August 7-8, 2010.
