Branch Offices

Dance/USA has established three branch offices in response to requests from local dance communities and foundation leaders. Branch offices extend the services of Dance/USA to local levels with on-the-ground, user-friendly organizations that embrace the unique context of their individual dance community. Each branch office was established with seed funding from funders who recognized the critical need for leadership, advocacy and services for their local dance artists and organizations. Dance/NYC
Michelle Burkhart, Director

In 2001, after months of explorations with the local community and funders, Dance/USA recognized the need for a branch office to accommodate New York City, the region that accounts for over 40% of its membership and the largest and most diverse dance population in the nation. In offering services to both large and small organizations, established and emerging artists, Dance/NYC encompasses both the rich history of dance and its exciting and experimental future. For these institutions and individuals, it offers the following forms of support: advocacy and research, professional development services, and cooperative communication.

Major funding for the founding and ongoing support of Dance/NYC is generously provided by:

  • The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
  • Booth Ferris Foundation
  • The National Endowment for the Arts

Dance/USA Philadelphia
Lois Welk, Director

Dance/USA Philadelphia was founded in 2007 to provide resources, promotion, and collaborative opportunities for the dance community in the greater Philadelphia area. The William Penn Foundation provided the initial support for the creation of the Philadelphia branch. The goals of the new office include establishing leadership within the community, advocating for dance, creating a virtual and physical information hub, and supporting capacity and audience building initiatives.

Major funding for Dance/USA Philadelphia is generously provided by:

Additional funding and technical support is provided by:

  • Dance Advance, a program of The Pew Center for Arts and Heritage administered by the University of the Arts
