New England Foundation for the Arts Announces Change in Leadership
Boston, MA John M. Plukas, Board Chairman of New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) announced today that Samuel Miller has resigned as NEFA’s Executive Director, effective June 1, 2004, in order to accept a new position as President of Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC).
Mr. Miller served as NEFA’s Executive Director for ten years. Under his leadership NEFA has launched important new projects in New England like the Creative Economy Initiative, a partnership with the New England Council that promotes economic development of the creative sector; and Expeditions, which supports regional touring of interdisciplinary arts projects. Mr. Miller has also pioneered a number of nationally significant programs at NEFA, including the National Dance Project, now a cornerstone of dance touring in the United States, and the Cambodian Artists Project, in partnership with Asia Society and the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. During Mr. Miller's tenure, NEFA has doubled its budget, and significantly expanded the number of artists and communities it serves. “Sam has been a visionary leader at NEFA, and has helped the Foundation broaden its services to reach a wider constituency than ever before,” Plukas said. “We are sorry to see him go but look forward to a new relationship with Sam at LINC and to his continued leadership in the field as a champion of artists and arts organizations.” Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC)
“It's been a privilege to work with NEFA's board, staff, and constituents for the past ten years,” Miller said. “I'm proud of what we have achieved together. I look forward to continuing to serve artists and the communities they enrich from my new position, and to future collaborations with NEFA and my other colleagues in New England and beyond.” NEFA creatively supports the movement of people, ideas, and resources in the arts within New England and beyond, makes vital connections between artists and audiences, and builds the strength, knowledge, and leadership of the region's creative sector. NEFA is a 501(c)(3) that operates with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New England state arts agencies, and from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
